Plot[ | ]

The Game takes place in Leydia, a region of an alien medieval planet. At the start of the fame, The Protagonist dies and makes a deal with Death that, if he roams about the world and kills off immortals, he himself will become immortal.[1]

Gameplay[ | ]

Players explore a non-linear world filled with secrets and horror. Players are confronted with hostile environments and fighting off against bloodthirsty enemies and immortals, some creatures even reach to the skies. As enemies are defeated, players obtain Essence, the currency of the game, in which they can use it to buy stronger and more useful weapons. The game was planned to have a notorious difficulty that would test the player's skills and dedication to this game, as they will die a lot.

Development[ | ]

Development first started as a prototype from Jean Canellas in 2013, who was still attending the University of Southern California. It wasn't worked on again until February 2014, when Jean decided to revisit the prototype after finishing USC with Alex Kubodera, who started making the art for it. During then, the game was still called Terminus. Although the game was very early in development at that time, the main Protagonist of the game had already gotten eight reworks. The name Terminus was eventually changed to Death's Gambit due to several other medias with the same name.

On 28rd February 2015, White Rabbit announced that Adult Swim Games will publish Death's Gambit. On the same day, they released the reveal trailer [2] for Death's Gambit. Because of Adult Swim Games, they were able to showcase their game at PAX East 2014 and it was also their first time showcasing it to the public.

Four months later, White Rabbit announced to bring Death's Gambit to PS4.[3] The reveal was around the time of E3 2015, which they also participated in. During E3, Death's Gambit also made several appearances on popular live streams, such as the Twitch E3 livestream, the PS4 live coverage [4] and the Indie Mix by Gamespot.[5]
